Melody Hanatani is looking for a good breakfast place
(around Santa Monica, CA)
I haven't found a great breakfast place since we moved back to SoCal. I want a place where sausage means pork sausage, not turkey sausage.  ”

John O'Groats Restaurant [+] — recommended by Jerry Liu (24 months ago)
10516 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA
(310) 204-0692
They have a bacon cheddar waffle, which I love. Their corned beef hash is great too because it's homemade, and not very greasy, so it doesn't feel too unhealthy. However, there's always a wait there, and it might take 15-20 minutes for a table for 2.

The food here is pretty good, but the portions are gigantic. I liked the blueberry pancakes, but I couldn't even eat half of what they gave me.

I like Maxwell's. Great pancakes, omelettes, variety of sausage. When they have homemade corned beef hash, it's great. Also, great tip I got from Dustin: get a fried blueberry muffin. They split it in half and cook it on the griddle. Delicious.

Dustin Boswell: I know you're pretty carnivorous, but their veggie sausage patties are really good too. Their coffee is mediocre however. 24 months ago

I used to go here when John O'Groats was too crowded. It's pretty good and has reasonable prices.

Great cajun food for lunch and dinner, but people have tried their chicken and waffles for breakfast and say it's great.

This is a great breakfast place! It's very small, however, if you go on a sunny day, you can sit on the patio and it's very pleasant. I thought their pancakes were really good too.

It's way out in Encino, but we make a special trip on occasion because my kids love this place. They especially like the "Love Waffle," which is a Belgian chocolate dipped waffle topped with a scoop of ice cream and strawberries. Their home-fries are really good (though verging on a bit too salty), and they have a good eggs benedict. It can get quite busy, but the wait staff is fast and friendly.
