AskR.com is a site where you can ask your friends for business recommendations, and suggest your favorite businesses to your friends.

For example, you might ask for a recommendation for a dentist near Santa Monica, and say

I'm looking for someone who can use Nitrous Oxide (I'm alergic to Novacaine).
I don't mind if he's a bit expensive, but he has to be really good.

and your friend might respond with

I've been going to Dr. Gaseous for 10 years.  He's really good.  You'll love the
fish aquarium in the lobby.  Tell him I sent you.

The whole concept of this site is about personalized recommendations you trust. There are plenty of sites like CitySearch and Yelp that have average ratings for all businesses in the country. But sometimes you'd rather just have a few suggestions from friends that you trust.
